You do an excellent job of contrasting the joys of independence with the hard realities of being on one's own, J. I like how you weaved the alley boys and their eggs back into the narrative. Sharks and turtles: the ocean's a big place for three boys in a boat.

It feels like Life if Pi. You can't tell if it's real, a dream, or a story. It also has the feel of Hemingway's La Perla.
