The room echoed with gasps
and burbles, stirring,
Somewhere behind a bench
a stomach was gurgling.

Fingernails flitted,
tapping on metallic rows,
A nervous energy twitched
in legs and in toes.

Everything jittered minutely,
trying to stay still,
Eyes blinked expectantly,
as if with their own will.
