Recently released : Falling Backward | Pioneers | Mr. Unreasonably Cheery Flowers
Do you have a whackadoo habit?
I see you in the back with your hand half-raised.
You’re in good company. I do, too.
But I’m only willing to talk about one of them just now. Every morning while making coffee I jot down the song stuck in my head.
I’ve been doing this for over a year. It’s an eclectic mix, for sure.
It looks like this:
I recently graphed the list by the year of song release. I wondered if I might see the music of my high school years index higher than other years (KUKQ 1060AM!)
Nope — 1986. I was twelve. My dad opined that maybe I started to pay attention to music around then.
I guess 1986 isn’t so bad. After all, that was the year of Run DMC’s Walk This Way and Pet Shop Boys’ “West End Girls.” Incidentally, neither of those made my list. And 1986 was an interesting, if wonky, year at the box office: Top Gun, Aliens, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and…Howard The Duck.
But, 1986 will come in handy…more on that another time.
The graph looks like this:
Music has played huge role in my life, listening to it, working in the industry, learning to play a bit of guitar or drums. Maybe yours, too?
To wit, I’ve added the notation, music to read by, at the bottom of longer stories. It’ll be a track I wrote with, likely on repeat, or something about it gives me the feels for that piece. If it’s distracting, ignore it. If you had something else in mind, let me know.
I’ve also added a Backstory notation to some pieces. As I can best recall, I’ll include a few details about the story’s genesis or construction. For a select few I’ll include a partial early draft. Think of it as a writerly way of adding something more (ala special features on a DVD).
As always, I’d love to hear your thoughts on the stories and what you’re reading.
